Seasonings That Make Everything Better

These are just a few of my favorite seasoning recipes I prepare ahead of time. .Why buy store bought if homemade is better?

Chili Seasoning

INGREDIENTS

  • 9 tablespoons chili powder
  • 3 tablespoons ground cumin
  • 3 teaspoons paprika (smoked paprika optional)
  • 3 teaspoons cocoa powder
  • 1.5 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1.5 teaspoons onion powder
  • 1.5 teaspoons red pepper flakes
  • ¾ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • ¾ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 3 tablespoons ranch dressing seasoning
  • Salt, to taste

COMBINE:

  1. Mix all dry ingredients together.
  2. Store in a 16 oz jar until ready to use.

Taco Seasoning

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika (regular or smoked)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon dried oregano
  • ½ teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)

Instructions

  • In a small bowl, mix all the ingredients until well combined.

  1. Store in an airtight container in a cool, dry place for up to 6 months.
  2. Use about 2 tablespoons per pound of meat, or adjust to taste.

Tips:

  • Add a pinch of chipotle powder for a smoky kick.
  • Adjust salt and cayenne based on your spice preference.
  • Use in tacos, burritos, fajitas, chili, roasted veggies, or grilled meats for extra flavor.

Italian Seasoning Blend

(Perfect for dips, dressings, and season)


For 3-4 batches (about 1 cup total):

  • 1/2 cup dried buttermilk powder
  • 2 tbsp dried parsley
  • 1 tbsp dried dill weed
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp onion powder
  • 1 tbsp dried chives (optional)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground black pepper

To make ranch dressing: Mix 2 tbsp seasoning with 1/2 cup mayo and 1/2 cup milk (or Greek yogurt for a healthier dip).

Fajita Seasoning Mix

(Perfect for chicken, steak, shrimp, or veggie fajitas)


For 3-4 batches (about 3/4 cup total):

  • 3 tbsp chili powder
  • 2 tbsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tbsp cumin
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp onion powder
  • 1 tbsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp sugar (optional, balances flavors)

Cajun Seasoning

(Great for blackened chicken, shrimp, fries, or roasted veggies)


For 3-4 batches (about 1 cup total):

  • 3 tbsp paprika (use smoked for extra depth)
  • 2 tbsp garlic powder
  • 2 tbsp onion powder
  • 1 tbsp dried oregano
  • 1 tbsp dried thyme
  • 1 tbsp cayenne pepper (adjust for spice)
  • 1 tbsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp white pepper (optional)
  • 1 tbsp salt

Homemade Tajín-Style Seasoning

For 3–4 batches (about 1/2 to 3/4 cup total):

  • 2 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tbsp cayenne pepper (or to taste)
  • 2 tbsp dehydrated lime zest or 1 tbsp True Lime powder
  • 1 tbsp citric acid (for tang)
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 1 tbsp sugar (optional, to balance the tang)
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika (optional for depth)

Instructions:

  1. Mix all ingredients together in a small bowl.
  2. Store in an airtight jar away from heat and light.
  3. Taste and adjust the spice, salt, or lime to your preference.

All-Purpose House Seasoning

(Use on meats, vegetables, eggs — everyday go-to mix)


For 3-4 batches (about 1 cup total):

  • 3 tbsp paprika (use smoked for extra depth)
  • 2 tbsp garlic powder
  • 2 tbsp onion powder
  • 1 tbsp dried oregano
  • 1 tbsp dried thyme
  • 1 tbsp cayenne pepper (adjust for spice)
  • 1 tbsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp white pepper (optional)
  • 1 tbsp salt
